In Spain, the Mercedarian Missionary Sisters of Bérriz are present in several communities of sisters in Madrid and in Bizkaia (Bérriz, Bilbao, and Markina).

In the Mission there are three lay communities who, together with the sisters, live the feeling of MMB family
sharing charisma, mission in co-responsibility.

From our call to be a sign and presence of God and our passion for mission and liberation, we want to continue encouraging these options by strengthening collaboration between sisters and the laity.

  • To nurture the quality of personal and communal life in order to be a better proclaimer of Jesus and his gospel. We feel called to share the treasure of our liberating mission, both individually and by living the community as a mission.
  • to continue responding to new forms of slavery in a liberating way:
    • Revitalizing the Justice, Peace, Integrity of Creation (JPIC) approach as key to guiding our lifestyle and missionary commitments.
    • Growing in our commitment to the Earth by deepening our ecological spirituality.
    • Bringing our lives closer to the most vulnerable people through our presence and volunteering in areas of exclusion and networking.
    • Opening our homes to migrants in communities of hospitality, cultivating an interreligious and intercultural perspective.
    • Accompanying young people in their faith journeys through retreats, work camps, and other activities.
    • In Education, promoting the transmission of our charism in this area.
    • Strengthening Bérriz as a missionary presence that makes visible our MMB charism by living the welcome, spirituality, care for the Earth and social inclusion.
